Abridged history of Fort Ellsworth in Alexandria
Built out of timber and earthwork, Fort Ellsworth is just one of the many forts that were constructed in Union occupied Northern Virginia to defend the Capitol.

Weeks after the Union defeat at Blue Ridge Mountain, Fort Ellsworth and the other forts were built, but Fort Ellsworth was structured on one of the highest points west, which is now Old Town Alexandria.
Fort Ellsworth is now home to Fort Ellsworth Condominiums just west of the Masonic Temple in Alexandria VA
